The Guardia di Finanza uncovered a clandestine banknote production operation inside a building in Via del Parco Margherita, in the Chiaia district of Naples.
Officers seized counterfeit 20-euro and 50-euro banknotes with a total nominal value of more than 394,000 euro. The seizure comprised 6,944 fake 20-euro notes and 5,104 fake 50-euro notes.
Inside the workshop investigators found digital printers, laminating machines, paper cutters, label printers, computers, digital storage media and telephones. They also seized sheets imitating watermarks, adhesive supports, counterfeit holographic strips and materials intended for forging identity documents.
According to the reported reconstruction, the operation involved two sites: a print shop in the Ponti Rossi area and the laboratory in Chiaia.
The judge for preliminary investigations ordered pre-trial detention for Rosario Della Monica and Carmine Grassi, while Enrico Izzo was released for lack of serious circumstantial evidence. Della Monica and Grassi admitted responsibility; Izzo stated that he did not know the contents of the envelopes he had transported.
The measures concern an investigative phase. No final outcome of the criminal proceedings is documented in the available research.
