On Sunday 11 October 2026, a boulder detached from the hillside alongside the Asse Perimetrale Vomero–Pianura in Naples, prompting a precautionary road closure.
The affected section was closed in both directions between the via Montagna Spaccata and via dello Sport junctions. The closure followed a rockfall near a tunnel entrance and was ordered to allow technical inspections, removal of rocky material, and hillside safety works.
Municipal offices warned the owners of the private areas from which the material detached and requested safety works within their responsibility. Other sections of the perimetral road and unaffected junctions remained open.
What is not yet known
No reopening date had been announced at the time of publication, and the duration of the closure remained unspecified. The reports do not give the size or exact trajectory of the boulder, identify the private property owners, or provide details of completed stabilisation work.
Drivers using the Vomero–Pianura connection should expect disruption on this section until inspections and safety works are completed and a reopening is officially confirmed.
