A national truck-drivers' protest created operational difficulties for ASIA Napoli, the company responsible for waste collection and street cleaning in Naples, because of fuel shortages and restricted access to waste-treatment and disposal facilities outside the city.
ASIA reported difficulty obtaining fuel for its vehicles and difficulty delivering collected waste to treatment and disposal plants. NapoliToday, reporting ASIA's statement, said fuel-supply problems and restricted access to extra-urban facilities could slow both waste collection and city-cleaning services.
Paper, bulky waste and organic waste affected
Paper and bulky-waste collection were affected. ASIA temporarily suspended home collection of bulky waste, postponed bookings and existing appointments, and asked residents not to leave bulky waste in the street while the suspension was in effect.
Organic-waste management was also under pressure because of difficulties sending waste to facilities in Acerra and Giugliano.
ASIA said vehicle availability varied by district, with the most severe fuel-related constraints reported in the city's north-western and western areas. Collection and street-cleaning services could be delayed and might not be regularly guaranteed while the transport disruption continued.
What residents should do
For residents with bulky items, the practical effect was straightforward: home pickup was temporarily suspended, bookings were postponed, and bulky waste should not be placed on the street during the suspension.
For daily waste, the disruption meant residents could face delays rather than normal collection times, particularly for paper and organic waste and for street cleaning. The sources do not provide a complete list of affected collection routes or neighborhoods, so residents in areas with visible delays needed to follow ASIA's notices rather than assume a normal schedule.
Wider disruption across Campania
The disruption to ASIA was part of a wider logistics protest in Campania. Corriere reported continuing disruption to fuel distribution and road traffic linked to the protest, although some logistics activity and escorted truck movements were beginning to resume.
That wider context explains why two different constraints hit ASIA at the same time: vehicles were harder to fuel and operate, and waste was harder to move to plants outside Naples.
What remains unclear
The available sources do not establish how long the ASIA disruptions lasted or when every affected service returned to normal. The longer-term effect on waste accumulation and treatment capacity also remains unclear.
