Lawyer Gennaro Iannotti, a candidate for mayor in Caserta, has said he was robbed at night on Via Sossietta Scialla in Caserta.
According to the account reported by Il Mattino, Iannotti was travelling with a colleague when two cars blocked their vehicle. The two occupants then handed over their wallets and mobile phones, and the car was taken.
The vehicle was later found on Friday morning in Castel Volturno.
Iannotti published a video recounting what happened and showing the complaint filed with the police. In his account, he also pointed to inadequate street lighting as a public safety concern.
No information has been reported on whether suspects were identified, arrested or charged, and no independent police statement was available in the reporting. The identities and number of those involved have not been confirmed beyond the reported use of two cars.
