Goods are moving again in the Caserta area after several days of disruption caused by the hauliers' protest in Campania. With the progressive removal of the roadblocks, including the picket at the Bausan gate of the Port of Naples, trucks have resumed deliveries and supermarkets have begun to restock.
Il Mattino reports that, once the last picket at the Bausan gate was dismantled, departures resumed and lorries restarted deliveries of fresh and packaged products. Corriere della Sera also reports the progressive removal of blockades in Naples, Caserta and Salerno and the end of the picket in the Bausan gate area.
What was blocked
During the protest, food loading and unloading operations were interrupted in the Carinaro area, while freight traffic was restricted at the Bausan gate, according to Sky TG24. The slowdown left shelves increasingly empty and delayed deliveries across the local distribution chain.
Fresh products were the most exposed. The reported categories include fruit and vegetables, milk, meat and fish, which were subject to delays and deterioration during the stoppage.
Coldiretti: harvests discarded and milk blocked
Coldiretti Caserta says the return of goods to the shelves does not close the matter for local farms. According to the association, cited by Il Mattino, some fruit and vegetable harvests were discarded after time in cold storage, while milk remained blocked on farms and was in some cases sold below cost.
Coldiretti Caserta also says that, during the distribution gap, large retailers replaced part of local supplies with foreign products.
Damage still to be assessed
The overall economic damage has not yet been precisely quantified and varied by sector and company size. There is no verified province-wide account of the quantities actually destroyed in Caserta, and the sources do not document how long any use of non-local supplies by large retailers may continue.
The sources describe restocking as under way, but not as a uniform return to normal in every shop and every sector. For shoppers in Caserta, that means availability has started to improve, while some fresh lines may still be inconsistent as deliveries catch up.
